LANportal is a platform for hosting LAN and other gaming events. It aims to give the best experience for eSports attendees and become a powerful marketing and selling tool for event organizers. It contains several unique features tailored exclusively to the LAN organizers and event visitors.
The idea of this startup was to build a platform that will bring value to gamers, spectators, and event organizers. The product should consider the specifics of the eSports community, common standards of the user interface and user experience in this industry. It should provide a flexible, reliable, and secure tool for the LAN organizers to create events and sell tickets.
0.1Research and Analysis
- Defining users and their goals
- Stakeholder interviews
- Competitor analysis
- Defining features and functionality
- Building user scenarios
- Building a sitemap
The result of this phase is a detailed sitemap which gives a high-level representation of the website.
Since we defined the user goals and built the sitemap, it is time to specify the framework of the new website. Building the wireframes allowed us to define the information architecture, perform early usability testing, and get feedback from the stakeholders without worrying too much about the visual part.
After a long preparation period, we’ve focused on the visual design. The design represents a well-thought-out UX. Below, you can find the key screens created for this project.
Upcoming gaming events and tournaments with quick access to those a user has already joined.
Overall ticket sales statistics, venue statistics, and ticket tracking.
Tickets Booking System
It allows users to navigate the seat map built by an organizer, then select and buy the appropriate tickets.
A huge part of the tournament management is carried out on this page.
And many more…
It’s tremendously important to have consistency through the whole website, so we developed the guidelines which explain how each individual UI element works.
We used Node.js + ES6 to build a REST/JSON service, allowing us to handle thousands of concurrent users. The frontend was built as an SPA, providing a smooth user experience in every section of the application.
For real-time operations, we used WebSocket. For i18n, we used GetText, which has a variety of supporting tools and simplifies the translators’ work in the future.
LanPortal was successfully released and became the first solution of such kind for the LAN organizers in Sweden. Upon being launched, it started to engage popular LAN organizers and became a platform for establishing large gaming events. It proved to be a great tool to gather the community and provide services from event information / news to selling tickets.
Qualium Systems has a very professional and dedicated team which makes sure to deliver software of top quality, as previously agreed and on schedule. The team was very agile and during the course of development they adapted well to the changes that emerged.During LANportal’s collaboration with Qualium Systems the developers were also very active and came up with own suggestions of improvements that later were implemented. As a customer, especially as one who had never ordered an IT project before, this ability among the developers was very helpful. Overall LANportal is very satisfied with what Qualium System so far has produced for us!
