LANportal is a platform for hosting LAN and other gaming events. It aims to give the best experience for eSports attendees and powerful marketing and selling tool for event organizers. It contains several unique features tailored to just LAN organizers and its visitors.
The idea of this startup was to build a platform that will bring value for gamers, spectators and event organizers. The product should consider specifics of the eSports community, common standards of user interface and user experience in this industry. It should provide a flexible, reliable and secure tool which will allow LAN organizers to create events and sell tickets.
0.1Research and Analysis
- Defining the users and their goals
- Stakeholder interviews
- Competitor analysis
- Defining features and functionality
- Building user scenarios
- Building a sitemap
The result of this phase is a clear sitemap which gives a high-level representation of the website.
Since we defined the user goals and built the sitemap, it is time to specify the framework of the new website. Building wireframes allowed us to define the information architecture, perform early usability testing and get feedback from the stakeholders without worrying too much about visual look.
0.3Visual Design Phase
After a long preparation period, we’ve focused on visual form. The design represents a well-thought-out UX. Below you can find the key screens created for this project.
Upcoming gaming events and tournaments with quick access to the events and tournaments which the user has already joined.
Overall tickets sales statistics with quick access to tickets check in feature.
Tickets booking system
Allows users to navigate the seat map built by the organizer, then select and buy the appropriate tickets.
Huge part of the tournament management goes on this page.
And many more…
It’s tremendously important to have consistency through the whole website, so we developed guidelines which explain how each individual UI element works.
We used Node.js + ES6 to build a REST/JSON service allowing us to handle thousands of concurrent users. Frontend is built as an SPA providing smooth user experience in every section of the application.
Websocket is responsible for real time operations. For i18n we used GetText, which has a variety of supporting tools. This makes it very easy to use it by translators in future.
LANportal was the first such solution for LAN organizers in Sweden. Right from its launch it started to engage popular LAN organizers and became a platform for establishing large gaming events. It proved to be a great tool to gather the community and provide services from event information / news and to selling tickets. At this moment development of the product continues and our team works on adding new useful features helping LANportal to extend its presence on Swedish market and improve value for users.
Qualium Systems has a very professional and dedicated team which makes sure to deliver software of top quality, as previously agreed and on schedule. The team was very agile and during the course of development they adapted well to the changes that emerged.During LANportal’s collaboration with Qualium Systems the developers were also very active and came up with own suggestions of improvements that later were implemented. As a customer, especially as one who had never ordered an IT project before, this ability among the developers was very helpful. Overall LANportal is very satisfied with what Qualium System so far has produced for us!
